GRANT ENRICHES AND PROMOTES BEST PRACTICE IN NONPROFIT INNOVATION The Coca-Cola Foundation has pledged $500,000 to Claremont Graduate University over the next four years to support the Drucker Institute’s Peter F. Drucker Award for Nonprofit Innovation. Funding will be used to stimulate interest in developing innovative programs that respond to critical community issues, to create awareness about best-practice programs and to enhance the value of the award. Drucker Award for Nonprofit Innovation 2008 Winners Chosen! The Drucker Institute at Claremont Graduate University has announced this year’s winners of the Peter F. Drucker Award for Nonprofit Innovation. KickStart International, a San Francisco-based organization that fights poverty in Africa by creating and selling simple tools that help poor entrepreneurs increase their income, was awarded the $35,000 first-place prize. The Drucker Institute Launches New Website On September 12, 2008 the Drucker Institute opened the curtains to reveal a brand new website, complete with a wealth of new information about the life and ongoing relevance of the work of Peter Drucker. A couple of months ago Dean Ira Jackson had dinner with Drucker alumni Tom Hsieh and Father Benigno Beltran. Fr. Ben told about his work in Manila with the people who live on the ‘Smokey Mountain’. These people make their money by scavenging on the trash heap of Manila… the Smoking Mountain… which is so named because of constant small refuse fires that permeate everything with a toxic stench. He also discussed his ideas and dreams of helping these people by letting them help themselves. He created a plan to enable the residents of Smokey Mountain to form buying groups that mimic, on many levels, the work of Iqbal Quadir, founder of GrameenPhone in Bangladesh and Muhammad Yunus of Grameen Bank .
